This weekend we made a BIG decision.
We decided to go to a booster chair.
Mind you I'm a big pusher of extended rear facing and extended harnessing.
BUT. The kids were fighting over their chairs. And the girl wanted the boy's BIG seat (a regent) and the boy REFUSED her little seat (the marathon) And we got a booster chair for a spare for Josh's car. Which somehow ended up in my car. And suddenly the boy in his autistic glory no longer agreed with harnessing.
Reluctantly I realized that maybe it was time. He was definitely old enough (like I said five is approaching painfully soon!) and definitely weighs enough (hell fifty pounds is approaching pretty fast. lol) and mature? He's mature enough.
That's the part that makes my heart gasp. He sits in a regular seat belt on the school bus and has for over a year. He's never tried to mess with his seat belt in the booster we were using as the temp chair. I researched the newest risks vs benefits and realized that this fight? Was one I could give up. And so we went and bought a chair with great reviews from professionals and people in real life.
And the boy? Is really. really. happy.

Most of the reason we'd purchased the regent was because I didn't believe he'd be emotionally ready by 40 pounds like a traditional seat given how fast he was growing (which, really, he would have ended up there at 3 years old. no no no), and I wasn't even sure by sixty five pounds he'd be ready. So we got a full blown 80 pound seat.
Which should hold the girlchild until she's about 14 or so. :)
And she knows that they each have their own seats and brother gets his because he's a big boy.
And man alive is he ever. He makes me happy in the heart.
